Volvo XC90 2004-2014 - OEM Style dash screen upgrade
Our answer for the Volvo XC90 isn't a universal shell with an adapter ring. It's a screen cut for the car, running Android 15 with wireless CarPlay, leaving the climate panel where Volvo put it.
One car, one generation: the Volvo XC90 2004-2014. Two model numbers cover it, and they answer one question. Where do you want the screen to go?
| Model | Screen | Where it installs |
|---|---|---|
| HB/HV7164 | 7" | At the original screen position |
| HB/HV7168 | 8" | In the main unit slot; the original screen stops working |
Pick the wrong number and it's annoying, because the fix is the other number. The 7164 route keeps your factory display alive: a Volvo XC90 2004-2014 OEM Style Car Radio that adds a 7-inch panel at the screen position. The 7168 fills the radio slot with an 8-inch touchscreen, and the old screen goes dark. The climate panel and its buttons stay put on both.
Build varies across a decade of production. Amp or no amp? Auxiliary input or not? I see XC90 installs go awkward here when nobody checks, and it takes two minutes to answer.
On these cars it's mostly about what you can see. Before: a small radio display, a CD slot, one button per job. After: a Volvo XC90 2007 Android 15 Head Unit, so the map sits in your eyeline, Spotify starts on its own, and calls come out of the car speakers instead of a cradle.

Three different purchases: keep the factory system, buy a marketplace listing, or buy a fascia that's already cut for your car.
| Comparing | Keeping the factory system | A marketplace listing | HB/HV7164/7168 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Display | Small factory display, no touch | Size varies, fitment unstated | 7" or 8" touchscreen in an OEM Style screen |
| Phone | A cradle, and nothing else | CarPlay, sometimes via an adapter | Wireless CarPlay and Android Auto built in |
| Navigation | Factory DVD maps if ordered | App dependent | Android 15 with 4G LTE and Wi-Fi |
| Audio | Factory amplifier and CD changer | RCA outputs vary, amplifier handling unclear | Built-in DSP, RCA amplifier interface, RDS tuner |
| Where it sits | Wherever the factory put it | Usually needs a separate fascia | 7164 above the dash, 7168 in the radio slot |
The first two columns describe each route in general terms. Our column lists the published specification of this kit.
Pair once, then it connects on its own. No cable, no dongle, nothing to tap.
Android 15 on a UIS8581A Cortex-A55 at 1.6 GHz with a data SIM, so maps work with your phone in your pocket.
Shape the sound on the unit rather than living with the factory curve, and read station names, not numbers.
A Volvo XC90 2010 Wireless CarPlay Upgrade is the change owners notice first. You get in, the phone connects, the map appears. Then there's what sits behind it, and here I'd rather give you numbers than adjectives: an RCA power amplifier interface, a built-in DSP, an external microphone, RDS on the tuner, a TDA7851 amplifier chip and an ST7708 radio chip.
A fascia that lines up still can't tell you what's behind your dashboard, and that's where upgrades get painful. Three things are decided at the factory, not by the model year: the amplifier, the auxiliary input, and the audio package. So we do it the tedious way: you send the year and a photo of the connector stack, we match it to the version we hold, and only then does it ship. I keep seeing Volvo XC90 projects stall on a skipped photo.
The launcher is built around panels you'd actually use while driving. Clock, media, speed and radio sit on the home page, with a dock along the bottom. Long press a blank spot to switch themes if the layout isn't for you.

Because it's a full Android device rather than a mirroring screen, you install the map app you already pay for and keep your podcast app in the dock. On a 7-inch screen there's less room to waste.
Nothing below is included unless you ask for it. A DAB+ antenna with a USB adapter, a front dash DVR camera with ADAS, an ELM327 OBD reader, a USB tire-pressure display with four sensors, an AHD reversing camera, a four-camera 360 system, a dynamic-trajectory parking camera and a trim removal tool set sit on the product page.
If you're doing one extra, do the reversing camera. It changes a daily manoeuvre, and a Volvo XC90 2004-2014 Car Multimedia Player already puts the screen in your eyeline to show it. Think twice about the 360 system: it's four camera runs and more workshop time than most people budget for. Cameras that need a specific head unit series are marked on the product page.
Say so in the same message if you want a Volvo XC90 2012 Built-in DSP Car Stereo order bundled with the camera, the microphone or the DAB antenna, because one shipment is cheaper than two and the harness will already account for everything in the box.
Need a wiring reference or a straight answer about your own car? Tell me what your Volvo XC90 carries and which version you want, and I'll work through it with you before you pay. If you want the Volvo XC90 2010 Wireless CarPlay Upgrade but aren't sure whether the screen belongs above the dash or in the radio slot, say so first.

Send your model year, VIN and a photo of the connector stack, and we'll confirm whether the 7164 or 7168 is right for your car.
See the HB/HV7164/7168 on witson.comThe Volvo XC90 2004-2014. We still ask for your model year and VIN, because audio packages changed across that run and the version depends on your build.
7164 for a 7-inch screen at the original screen position. 7168 for an 8-inch screen in the main unit slot, where the original screen stops working. Everything else is the same.
Yes, on both. What changes is the screen and, on the 7168, the radio module in the main unit slot.
Yes, on both builds, along with 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, a built-in DSP and an RDS tuner. HDMI isn't fitted on either version, so plan rear screens around that.
Memory. HB is 2 GB plus 64 GB, HV is 4 GB plus 64 GB. Both run Android 15 with the same connectivity and audio spec.
It can, which is why we ask before shipping. Send your model year and a photo of the connector stack and we'll confirm the version and the leads, so you aren't working it out with the dashboard open.
